C i n c h a's Bio

CINCHA, aka CYNTHIA HILTS, is a singer/songwriter, pianist and vocalist, a prolific composer and lyricist, and an eclectic teacher of music. Originally from Arizona, she settled in New York City after several years of travel. She started playing at age two (Yes, really, playing the piano at two years old! Musical family...) and never stopped.

Cincha is fire onstage. She puts her beautiful voice, a silken piano, deep spirit and some wicked humor, to an amazing array of original songs. Likened to Sarah McLachlan, Joni Mitchell, and Bonnie Raitt, still she has an entirely original sound that hooks every audience she plays for. She has performed in many of New York City's premiere singer/songwriter venues, and across the USA, solo and with her band. Her self-named solo CD is scheduled for release in fall 2008 with Blond Coyote Records. What do the fans say?
"The stuff I've been trying to get to my whole life. "
"Oh, Cincha, the lullabye you wrote was the prettiest thing I've heard in years.
I'm over the moon."
"I didn't have a favorite tune, I liked them all."

Based in New York City, Cincha has played many of the great singer/songwriter venues of New York City - the Sidewalk, Knitting Factory, The Living Room and Triad Theatre. Solo she's spellbinding. With the band - more layers and dimensions to the
earthwild music she writes.
Her voice is sweet and evocative. Years as a jazz musician deepen her tone and interpretation. Still there's some simple grace that reaches back to the oldest folk music. Cincha is always a surprise on the piano. She accompanies herself so perfectly that you could get lost in the atmosphere - until she breaks out another jewel, some astonishing moment.
Cincha received an award in 2006 from the Great American Songwriting Competition for "Groundhog Sunday Stroll". This is typical Cincha - lyrical, humorous and subtle, touched with the jazz she plays as well.
She plays concerts and festivals around the world - New York, France, Mexico, Madagascar, Germany, Sweden, Tunisia.
Cincha has received many awards and grants as composer and lyricist. She writes for dance, for jazz ensembles, for film, and in collaboration with Tunisian guitarist Mamdouh Bahri, as well as recording for French and American documentaries .
Her musical language is rich. And she chooses a new path for each song, along the path of her sweet spirit.
