A HEIFER ON CAPITALIST AVE
© Cynthia Hilts

from the critics : "a right perky left wing tune"

I’m just a long-flanked heifer
Clompin’ down this crazy old street
First thing I see is yards of leather
Hear the clippy-clop of horned and pointed feet
Clankety-clank ave
I’m lost here on Fifth Avenue
Humans wishing for what they don’t have
Here in the stockyards on Fifth Avenue
Hey, is that a tree?
Nah, trees don’t grow in sidewalks!
Hey is that a flower?
Can’t be, there’s no place to root their pretty little stalks!

Everybody’s moving fast
Looks like they’re looking for something, real hard
Guess no one wants to see it last
But what are they lookin’ at, you can’t see but a coupla yards
Clankety-clank ave
I’m lost here on Fifth Avenue
Humans moooving for what they don’t have
It’s a dumb old rodeo here on Fifth Avenue
Hey is that the sun?
Nah, the sun ain’t brown!
Hey, is that some stars?

Nah, the stars shine down!

I’m just a long-flanked heifer
Clompin’ down this crazy old street
One thing I see is yards and yards of leather
Hear the clippy-clop of horned and pointed feet
Just another dumb cow in the chute
Just a dozen pairs or so of shiny leather boots
Just a great big hamburger without the bun
I’m gettin’ the heck outta here, this ain’t no fun!

See all them calves with nose rings?
Move ‘em on out!
See all them steers wearing the same three-piece thing?
Move ‘em on out!
See all them cows ain’t got no milk for the bucket?
Move ‘em on out!
Probably won’t see no bulls, if you do , just say...
Well, okay, move ‘em on out!
